Saturday Morning Cartoons (Completely Ruined For You)
Happy Saturday.
In 2017 artist Miguel Vasquez started posting 3D versions of well known cartoon characters on Twitter & Instagram and they went viral. Various publications reported on the images, but the artist himself seems pretty elusive. There were a couple quotes here & there, like this one for Buzzfeed:
“…he’s been obsessed with real-life renderings of cartoons for years, and finally decided to try it on his own. And when asked what he’d say to the millions of internet users who will never sleep again because of this, the artist’s response was pretty simple: ‘That was the plan all along.'”
Now Vasquez is back in the spotlight for his rendering of a ‘real life Homer Simpson’ & I wanted to know the man behind the nightmares I’ll now have forever. Still, there was nothing really solid where I was able to tie in a specific person with the art. His Twitter, Facebook, Instagram & Art Station pages have his name & his works but little else. Vasquez’s Twitter handle is @ItsMikeTheBoxer, but I don’t quite see it being this guy:
And after more digging I found an artist with the same name, but the art is completely different (although pretty great):
Usually my internet rabbit holes lead to results, but this time around I still have no clue who’s behind these monstrosities that have scarred the way I look at one of my favorite characters.
I think Coley summed it up pretty well.
